VisionScape Landscape Design Services FAQ

Do you have someone to come out to my property?
Yes. Once deciding to move forward with VisionScape, the first step is to have a VisionScape Preferred Contractor, or Master Designer come out to your property to perform a complete field survey.

What is a field survey?
A field survey is done at the beginning of a project to collect information on your property particulars. A VisionScape Preferred Contractor, or Master Designer will schedule a time to come out to the property, meet with you, and examine the design area. The contractor will take measurements of all existing hardscapes and property lines, examine your soil, make note of your sun and shade patterns, look for environmental problems, and take several digital photographs or every angle of the property.

What do you use the information acquired in the field survey for?
All the information from the field survey gets compiled and sent off to our design team so that they can create a base map of your property.

What is a base map and what is it used for?
A base map is basically an outline of what is on your property already, such as, your house, and decks or path ways, your driveway, and what areas we will be designing in. The base map is used as a launch point for your project. In your Master Designer Initial Meeting your designer will use the base map to start sketching out ideas and designating space for you project.

What are Hardscapes?
Hardscapes can be walkways, steps, decks, patios, fire places, or outdoor kitchens. Anything that is structural can be a Hardscape.

How much does this cost?
At VisionScape our fees are standard. We charge a flat fee based on the property size and design area. You can find out more information about your particular costs by signing up for a free landscape design consultation.

Homeowners Associations- I live in a development where everything needs to be approved by the board, are you familiar with the local regulations?
Our Master Designers are unique in that they are not only certified designers or licensed architects but they also have field experience. VisionScape doesn’t want you to have pretty plans on paper and then when you go to install these designs you have nothing but headaches. We will work with you and your board to make any revisions that are required ensuring that your construction goes as smoothly as your design process.

Do you do the construction as well as design?
No. VisionScape sets out to be an unbiased resource for homeowners. We work with our homeowners to design, plan, and budget out their landscape projects. At the completion of your project we will give you a minimum of 3 local contractors that are qualified, licensed and capable of completing your construction with no problems.

The homeowner gets to choose who they will have install their landscape. You can choose from our contractor database by browsing through feedback and reviews from other homeowners or send your project via email to the Preferred contractor referrals and have them bid on your project. This way you can choose whomever you feel most comfortable with, and by basing their quotes on the information we provide you for you to ensure that you are getting accurate quotes.

I want and need low maintenance; can you help me with that?
Yes. When working with your Master Designer you can choose the features that will require the least amount of maintenance.

I am getting ready to sell my house; can you help me make my landscape more appealing?
Yes. VisionScape works with homeowners who are trying to reposition their house for resale all the time. The first thing a potential buyer sees is the landscape and first impressions are key. Your Master Designer will work with you in creating an inviting landscape, not too customized so that the potential buyer can see themselves in it. Plus, we offer the chance for you to transfer ownership of your designs to the new homeowner so that they can make design modifications.

We have found that those clients that have gone through our design process and sold their house, have offered the designs as part of the closing for an additional benefit both to the current homeowner and the potential buyer.

Do you provide Topographical Surveys?
No. VisionScape's Field Survey does not include topographical information. It is not necessary to complete VisionScape Conceptual Landscape Design with this inoformation. However, it might be neccary to have this information during the construction stages if you are building additional structures on your property. A topographical survey is usually done by a licensed land surveyor.

Do the designs come with an Architectual Stamps?

No, due to insurance issues VisionScape is not able to provide architectual stamps with your VisionScape Landscape Designs. Each states requires different standards and since we are a national company this option is not yet available to VisionScape clients.

What about getting Permits?
Permits are usually obtained by your contractor if you choose to have them installed. If you are doing your construction yourself, you can bring the VisionScape conceptual designs down to the appropriate town department to ontain any permits that might be necessary. If the town or board requests changes to be made in order to recieve the permit, VisionScape is more than help you to make the appropriate revisions for you. Just inform your Master Designer of the requests that have been made and accomodations will be made so that you can recieve your permit and start construction.

Some permits require an architectual stamp of approval on your plans before you are entitled to your permit. In this case, since VisionScape is not able to provide this service at this time, we will provide you with both the hard copy and digital files for the architech or engineer to approve. They need not draw up your plans all over again they have the original files that we used. If they request any changes or modifications inform your Master Designer and we will work with you to get your plans approved and a permit be issued.
